INTRODUCTION

This division was formerly known as Elderly and Family Division.  Under the  Transformation Plan of the Social Welfare Department (JKM) 2011-2015, the division has been restructured and now known as Older Person Division.
 
Objectives of this Division is to plan, implement and monitor programs and activities related to older persons in addressing the issues and challenges of the increasing number of older persons in Malaysia. 
 
This Division has four (4) branches:
Institutional Services Branch
Older Persons Empowerment Branch
Older Persons Social Support Branch
Secretariat Advisory and Consultative Council Senior Citizens National Branch.

DIVISION FUNCTIONS
 
To provide care and protection to older persons in welfare institutions
Strengthen cooperation and sharing of responsibilities between government agencies and Non-Governmental Organizations (NGO’s)
Prioritizing equality of opportunity to access a variety of resources in line with the principles outlined in the National Policy for Older Persons

Division Functions
 
1. INSTITUTIONAL SERVICES BRANCH

i. Secretariat for Meetings of Head of Institution / State Coordinator
ii. Coordinate and monitor operational management, administrative and finance of Rumah Seri Kenangan (RSK) and Rumah Ehsan (RE).
iii. Plan, coordinate and monitor the implementation of the program, the Board of Visitors at the RSK and RE.
iv. Plan and provide training to the staff of SSR modules, RSK and RE.
v. Coordinate the implementation of JKM module, the entry of senior citizens to RSK and RE.
vi. Plan and coordinate the physical development of the RSK and RE.
vii. Plan, coordinate and monitor the implementation of the Lifelong Learning Programme (LLL) for senior citizens in the RSK and RE.
 
2. OLDER PERSONS  EMPOWERMENT BRANCH

i. Plan, coordinate and monitor the strategic programs and international for wellbeing of senior citizens
ii. Organise Senior Citizens Day Celebration National Level
iii. Develop, coordinate and monitor the implementation of the module Lifelong Learning Programme (LLL) for senior citizens in institutions and communities
iv. To coordinate and monitor the implementation of programs / activities in the District Senior Citizens Development Committee
v. To plan, prepare and develop spiritual and religious program for senior citizens in institutions and communities
 
3. OLDER PERSON SOCIAL SUPPORT BRANCH
 
i. Plan and coordinate the smart partnership program with the public, private and NGO
ii. Plan, coordinate and monitor the management and implementation of the activities of Activity Centre For The Older Person (PAWE)
iii. Plan, coordinate and monitor services for the Older Person Care Unit (UPWE)
iv. To plan, coordinate and monitor the project Economic Empowerment for the older person
v. To plan, coordinate and monitor the Respite Care Program in institutions and communities
vi. To plan, coordinate and monitor the Rumah Seri Kenangan (RSK) Community
vii. Monitor the provision of services / accessibility for older persons
viii. Collecting data, analyze and provide reports older persons stabilization program

4. SECRETARIAT NATIONAL ADVISORY AND CONSULTATION COUNCIL SENIOR CITIZENS BRANCH

i. Secretariat to National Advisory and Consultation Council Senior Citizens Meeting
ii. Organise Sub-Committee Meeting on Social and Recreation (JKKSR) under MPPWEN
iii. To coordinate and monitor the implementation of programs / activities in the Development Committee of Senior Citizens Affairs State and District
